Base Oils

Group I and Group II base oils for blending and industrial use.

Base Oils

Base oils and lubricants are our core business. ITP supplies the right-specification base stock backed by high levels of service and support. Our experienced team works closely with customers to match the right product to their needs and budget — essential in South Africa’s volatile market conditions.

Through our toll-blending partners we offer a full range of oils and lubricants, from white-label products to specialised formulations produced to the strict specifications of our international partners. Our base oils range from affordable Eastern European stocks to the highest-quality grades.

What Are Base Oils?

Base oils are the refined petroleum (or synthetic) stocks that form the foundation of almost every finished lubricant. Once blended with the right additive package, they become the engine oils, greases, hydraulic fluids and metal-working fluids used across industry. Because of this, base oil quality directly shapes how a finished lubricant performs. Choosing the correct base oil grade is the single biggest factor in a blend’s viscosity, thermal stability and overall performance, which is why the right base stock matters as much as the additives.

Group I vs Group II Base Oils

Firstly, Group I base oils are solvent-refined stocks. They remain a cost-effective, versatile choice for greases, general industrial oils and many conventional lubricants. Group II base oils, on the other hand, are hydro-treated to remove more impurities. As a result, they offer lower sulphur content, better oxidation resistance and a cleaner oil for demanding formulations. Moreover, ITP supplies both grades. This way, we match the right oil to your application and budget instead of pushing a one-size-fits-all product.

Typical Applications

Blenders and manufacturers use our base oils to produce many finished products. These include automotive engine and gear oils, greases, hydraulic and transmission fluids, and metal-processing fluids. In addition, they cover a wide range of specialised industrial lubricants. For example, whether you need a light neutral for a low-viscosity blend or bright stock for a heavy-duty grease, we hold the grades that keep your production running.

Reliable, Diversified Supply

To keep supply secure, we source base oils from established refineries across the USA, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. That way, we never depend on a single supplier. Consequently, this diversified network protects your production against shortages. It also keeps pricing competitive, so you get reliable stock you can plan around.
